Diary of (a) John

05/05/2002

Well, I was not wrong; it did turn out to be an interesting evening. And a rather pleasant one, I might add.

The guy, let's call him Karl, showed up around 8pm, and we had a beer while the girls finished preparing dinner. German, divorced and in love with Thailand, and, as it turned out later during the evening, with Saay as well.

Dinner was great, Saay especially is a very good cook and she had outdone herself this time. Certain it was not for my benefit though :)

After dinner we continued our conversation, which turned a lot more serious. Karl seemed to really enjoy the fact that my Thai is decent enough to talk to the girls and asked me to help him explain his feelings / thoughts to Saay.

Don't get me wrong, Saay's English is pretty good, but some things are beyond her. Expressing feelings and emotions is always difficult in a language not your own.

Anyway, it turned out that Karl saw Saay as much more than a friend. Saay felt the same way.
So, after much talk Karl asked Saay if she wanted to come stay with him for 3 months to see if things could work out. Saay agreed instantly.

Since Karl is leaving in 2 days getting the paperwork done in time is not possible. It was therefore agreed that Karl will come back in 2 months time to pick her up. This should give Saay plenty of time to get things taken care off.

Saay also promised she would not go out with customers anymore, and I do believe she intends to keep that promise.
Before leaving I took Karl aside and told him that he needn't worry about me either. As far as I am concerned Saay is off limits from now on. He seemed relieved with that, although I believe he is not really that concerned with Saay's past.

Looks like I will be losing a roommate in a couple of months.

PS Nit, while happy for her sister, seemed a bit taken a back with the news. The girls are very close.
