aircrest
As a Sailor running around the Asia in the early 60's Thailand was really not discovered until the Viet Nam War. Favorite Ports of call then were ranked as follows: Kaoshuing Taiwain Subic Bay, P.I. Sasebo Japan Yokosuka Japan Okinawa (Pre Japan) Hong Kong Chinhae Korea Best guess was Yokosuka Japan had in excess of 200 bars in a half mile stretch, both sides of the street. Go Go and Disco had not been invented so it was mostly conversation and drinking. Even after I got out of the service I continued going to Japan until 1972 then it became too expensive. Those Chinese in Kaoshuing were the most fun, however most ports we had to be back to the ship by midnight. You had to get your drinking and fooling around done by then. No time to waste.
