Coss Posted August 22, 2017 Report Share Posted August 22, 2017 Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn presented jackets of honour, Buddha amulets and a cash reward to two policemen who rescued a 21-year-old Myanmar rape victim from her attacker on August 19. The praised officers were Pol Senior Sergeant Major Kriengsak Khongjaem and Pol Corporal Natthaporn Sriwiset, from the Samae Dam precinct in Bang Khunthien district. Kriengsak recalled that he and Natthaporn were patrolling a road running parallel to the Suksawat Expressway when they spotted a parked transport van that was shaking violently. When they got closer, they heard a woman’s scream for help. They knocked on the window and ordered the van driver, who was wearing only boxer shorts, to open the door. Flashermac Posted August 23, 2017 Report Share Posted August 23, 2017 Police in Thailand often receive the reward offered for arresting a fugitive or solving a crime. (The actual cops who did so receive only a small share, most of it being claimed by the higher ups.) A buddy is retired LAPD. He told me that police in the USA are forbidden to receive any rewards, since it's their job to catch the bad guys. radioman Posted August 23, 2017 Report Share Posted August 23, 2017 No real surprise. Their basic pay is not enough to make it worth waking up in the morning. Just think of it like a commission only job. Now if they cut the police force to a third of it's size and paid everyone three times as much there might be a chance something would be done but just try making that happen, it would be bad on so many levels.
