Lao police on Saturday released 25 Thais who stirred up violence during a football match in Vientiane on Friday night, the Thai embassy said.

The embassy said Lao authorities contacted Thai diplomats in Vientiane to arrange for the hooligans to be sent home and they were freed from detention.

The War Elephants played Vietnam in the Asean Football Federation Under-19 final at the National Sports Complex Stadium in the Lao capital. The Thai side thrashed Vietnam 6-0 to take the Asean championship.

Trouble erupted after the Thai team scored its second goal 11 minutes into the second half as a group of fans set off fireworks, prompting Lao police to confront the visitors, Siam Sport reported on its website.

A police officer fired a bullet into the air to quell the disturbance and the fans were removed from the stadium to be detained, it added.

Lao authorities seized the passports and ID cards of the fans calling themselves "Ultras Thailand", according to Matichon Online.

The Thai embassy issued a statement on Saturday to apologise to Laos for the "rude action" of the fans.

"The embassy regrets and apologises to officials and all Lao people for what happened," the statement said.

The Football Association of Thailand plans to ban the hooligans, probably for life, after reviewing the case.

"The association will look into this matter. If they are the same group who have made trouble before, we could ban them from all games for the rest of their lives," Pol Lt Col Chaisup Tharatritpiem, an association member, told Matichon Online.

Don't go thinking Red shirt as in the political either, The colour of team shirts, not the black shirt guys clearing directing everything,

Complete utter cunt of course, you can see him inheriting daddies empire and continuing to be a compassionate man.

Just so typical of Thailand it the "Thainess" that makes me sick and leads me to believe the cuntry is heading to be the next "Burma" in SE Asia.

Cunts kill cops, force buses of bridges and get away with it.

NOTE Nothing much being said in Thailand! You can talk MORE about Less Majeste on the Bangkok Post than about this event.

Makes you really wonder who Daddy is!

That's an impressive dynamic - a bunch of foreigners at a match, setting up a protective cushion for Mr. Shirtless, with utter disregard to the fact that it's the Lao police they are pushing back as if it's the most natural thing for them to be doing - like they own the place (or work for the guy who does). Reminds me of seeing at times - various countries - local bigshots/mafia/money/dealers in nightclubs, with bouncers and protectors creating space for the VIP, free of irritants and little people. At least in nightclubs, the guy really has earned his spot and his treatment often enough, and may well own the club, the club-owners, or who knows who else...

And for fuck's sake, flares? Of course they should be banned - not the first time, not accidental, not safe, and so on.

But as said earlier - would be interesting to know who these few are, and why they get away with this. Just for my usual morbid sense of curiosity.
