Something happened anyway ... not in the press yet, except for PBS in Thai. Apparently something that sounded like a bomb went off at 8.10pm between Siam Paragon and the BTS station. As of 10.20pm police and EOD were still investigating.

Nothing in the English language PBS yet. Michael Yon has posted the pictures, but he knows no more than the rest of us.

More ... 10.40pm - As I understand it, I think they're saying it was a time bomb. That opens things to some interesting possibilities. Flash bombs, so not meant to kill. :hmmm:

Thai PBS has a translator, so I clicked on it:

Two homemade bombs explode in front of Siam Paragon

Two homemade bombs exploded in front of the Siam Paragon shopping mall Sunday night, police said. No one was injured.

The BTS suspended its skytrain services at the Siam Station at 8:10 pm after the explosion occurred under the sky path linking the mall and the Siam station. The service resumed at 8:38 pm.

Police said the bombs were planted behind a power transformer.

A message to someone ... but from whom?

"The two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were set on timers to explode at about 8pm, a peak time for shopping, entertainment and dining out in the Siam Square area. Despite this, Pol Lt Gen Prawut said the bombs 'were not intended to kill.'"

...

"Pol Lt Gen Prawut claimed the motive of the attack was likely to create panic rather than take lives. He did not provide any details of the IEDs, but denied early reports that the bombs contained nails."
