Water In Suk Soi 4, Bangkok

I can understand, from the way the media are reporting, that some people think all of Bangkok is underwater. Sure, some of the northern burbs are flooded but central Bangkok is dry as a bone. It can change of course. I took the precaution of moving 2 fridges from the lower level in my bar to the upstairs area. Just in case. But, and I stress it is just a feeling, most of us here don't think there will be serious flooding in central Bangkok.

Suk Soi 4 at 4 pm 26 Oct photo attached. Yes there is some water but bugger all.

Cheers,

Mark

Years ago, before the Chao Phaya River had floodwalls, Bangkok would flood a wee bit every couple of years. I saw Soi 4 with maybe 8 inches of water in it - that was it. Take off your shoes and socks and roll up your trousers.

I get irritated at the foreign press that headlines BANGKOK FLOODED ... and then shows pics of Bang Bua Thong, Pathum Thani etc. I don't think it is ignorance as much as sensationalising.

Exactly - me too. That is why I am posting the pics. As I write this the BBC is blaring "Bangkok being evacuated". Jeez.

Cheers,

Really does your business a lot of good, I'm sure. :p

But remember the BBC's overreacting during the red shirt summer last year? You'd think the whole of the city was burning down.

International reporting is a Joke, the classic one yesterday was CNN reporter stood in a puddle outside grand palace giving the impression the whole area was flooded. CNN Reporter

Some good banter on Twitter

Yep - I was in Portugal at the time and I was under that impression. And you are right about the impact on business. People are either not coming at all or going straight to Pattaya. Even expats that live in BKK are buggering off. Heard that some hotels in Pattaya have upped their prices due to the demand.

Oh well. Part of living in Thailand I guess.

Cheers,
