Coss
To those who may know... In general, as I know laws differ from one country to another, can I do the following? I am in a western country if that helps. If I have shared property, i.e. with a wife, can I write a letter declaring that I no longer claim an interest in it and assign all rights and claims, to said property, to her. Then get this witnessed and give it to her and leave. The intention is that she obtains all marital property and I disappear. Discussion welcomed. Coss

Coss
The validity of the letter, i.e. I wouldn't want to have to come back and sign more papers.
ThaiHome
Would probably be better to go to the amphur and sign the divorce with her and then sign a property settlement that gives her all the assets in Thailand. TH

gene1944
In the US, the document to transfer your interest in real property to another person would be called a "quit claim" deed. In some states quit claim deed requires notarization and/or recording it with the local deed registration body to make it official.
TheCorinthian
Gene is right. But that does nothing at all other than give property to someone else. And even with one, depending on who it goes to, you are now liable for gift tax. Tell us what you are trying to do and we can help better.
Coss
NG - leaving NZ, no property in Thailand. Ditch the lot, giving her the house means I satisfied my obligations, then off I go to start again. Thai Home - marriage in NZ not LOS
TheCorinthian
If their laws are anything like ours, all that does is give her your stuff. It has no legal status and she can still come after you. Plus, it will be hard if not impossible for her to sell the land as as he husband... you still have a claim to it. Also, it does not effect your citizenship at all.
